Captain Fresh, a technology-driven global packaged seafood leader, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire FRIME S.A.U. (Frime), Spain's leading sustainable tuna company. The closing of this transaction remains subject to necessary regulatory approvals and the satisfaction of closing conditions.
Founded in 1977 and headquartered near Barcelona, Frime has built a formidable position in premium yellowfin tuna, serving retail and foodservice customers across more than 30 countries with a reputation for superior quality, value-added products, and rigorous food safety. The Spanish processor and distributor operates four production sites across seven factories (21,600 m² of productive surface and 20 production lines), with an annual capacity of 15,000 tons of frozen, 9,000 tons of fresh, and 3,800 tons of semi-preserved products.
A young entrant in the seafood industry, Captain Fresh, within 5 years of its operation, has seen remarkable global growth on the back of its asset-light, vertically integrated model and expanding global footprint. Through its house of brands – including CenSea and Ocean Garden in the United States, Koral in Poland, Senecrus in France, and ChopServe in the UAE, Angola & India – the group offers a broad multi-species portfolio across shrimp, salmon and other seafood products to distributors, retailers and foodservice customers in over 30 countries.
Frime, along with its retail brand Køldfin, adds the scaled tuna segment to the group's multi-species portfolio, strengthening its value-added processing capabilities in Central Europe and further diversifying its sourcing mix with access to key tuna origins such as Mexico, Ecuador, and Indonesia.
